Overview

Vietnam Museum of Ethnology was formed in 1981 in Hanoi with an area of 3.27 ha. This work was designed by architect Ha Duc Linh and designed by interior architect Veronique Dollfus (French).

The museum is a small picture of the history and culture of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam with a variety of unique cultures. These artifacts are displayed in many different categories, such as clothing, jewelry, weapons, musical instruments, religions, beliefs, and many other spiritual activities. What to see in the Ethnology Museum

The museum is divided into three main display areas: the Bronze Drum Building, the Outdoor display area, and the Southeast Asia exhibition area. Looking from outside, visitors will be attracted by the presentation, layout from the form to the content which is very scientific and logical, easily grasp the own cultural colors of each ethnic group.

Bronze Drum Building

The Bronze Drum Building has two spaces, of which one is the themed exhibition space and is always renewed on the second floor, while the 1st-floor space introduces the identity of 54 ethnic groups. There are 15,000 artifacts, 42,000 film, and photos, depicting daily life, costumes, clothing, farming tools, and religious religions as well as the customs of ethnic minorities. For other services, the artifacts here are mostly translated into three languages: Vietnamese, English, French, and some other languages for visitors to visit and explore the museum.

The outdoor display area

In the outdoor display area, you can see the unique architecture of the ethnic people such as the stilt house of the Ede and Tay people, and the paved roof of the H' mong people. There is also a rice pounder with the water of the Dao people.

Southeast Asia exhibition area

From a distance, visitors will see the exhibition area built in the form of kite wings - a traditional culture not only of Vietnam but also of the ASEAN region. Kite symbolizes dreams, ambitions, and freedom. This place regularly displays Southeast Asian culture, Indonesian glass paintings, a glimpse of Asia, and around the world. 

Also, there are educational activities, movie rooms, multimedia rooms. Visitors can see cultural materials not only of Vietnam but also of ASEAN countries. It is the bridge and friendly cooperation between Vietnam and friends in Southeast Asia as well as in many parts of the world.
